Cinematographer Nigam Bomzan sends director JP Dutta a legal notice

‘Paltan’ Cinematographer, Nigam Bomzan has filed a legal notice against the film’s director JP Dutta and his daughter Nidhi Dutta for the non-payment of dues and for not giving him his due credit for his work in neither – the end-credits of the trailer nor songs.

This legal notice comes just weeks ahead of the film’s September 7, release.

Nigam said in a statement, “Being a fan of Dutta’s work, we verbally agreed on the money but didn’t sign a formal contract. I shot for 54 days, and the portions make up 80 per cent of the film. During that period, I received about 30 per cent of my remuneration.”

However, the cinematographer had to back-out from the film just before its third and final schedule, owing to his sister’s critical health conditions. He went on to claim that even when he discussed the matter with Dutta and Nidhi, the father-daughter duo supported his decision and replaced him with Shailesh Awasthi.

Nigam alleged that he only decided to take a legal route after his multiple requests to the team to clear his impending dues and give him credit for his work fell on deaf ears.

Bomzan said, “Nidhi told me that they hadn’t received the money from the production house. But she assured me that they would clear the payment soon. After a point, she stopped replying to my messages. I have been trying to reach them since March, but there has been no response. I finally decided to take the legal route. It’s sad that I have to fight to get credit for my work.”

He also claimed that his assistants too have not yet been paid for their work on the film.

In November 2017, the Cinematographer posted a picture with Dutta and a note that read,”#Lucky to have worked with the #legend an #institution in himself, so many lessons learnt .. running short of #words to describe him, …. Thanku @nidhiduttaofficial for the #oppurtunity ,u r #family forever #PALTAN #jpdutta.”
