Amrita Rao to play Meenatai in Bal Thackeray biopic

Biopics and real-life inspirations have become the latest fad in Bollywood. Almost every filmmaker wants to tell the audience something or about someone whom this generation would probably be unaware of. In an attempt to make this happen, filmmaker Kabir Khan chose to tell the story of India’s iconic World Cup win in the year 1983.

Starring Ranveer Singh, who will essay the role of none other than the iconic cricketer Kapil Dev, and the movie’s preparation have already kickstarted. Since it’s a special film for every cricket lover and in fact, every citizen of the country as it marked the iconic moment of the World Cup being lifted, Kabir Khan chose to start his film’s journey at the spot where history was created, i.e. Lord’s Stadium in London.

He took to his Instagram to share a picture while posing with Ranveer Singh and Sachin Tendulkar, and captioned it as, “Sachin was 9 years old when he saw on television Kapil’s Devils win the World Cup in 1983 right here at this ground. That win inspired him to want to play for India. 35 years later we kick off the prep for our film 83 at the Lords… Can’t get better than this can it? @ranveersingh @sachintendulkar #indiaenglandseries #lords #filmprep”

Ranveer too posted a picture of himself, looking his dapper usual, waiting for the rains to vanish. He captioned the picture as, “Rain Rain go away 🌧”

“The whole team will have to undergo some prep work. There will be a boot camp where they all will be trained for (playing) cricket. “Members of the 1983 World Cup squad will be helping us, they will be there as consultants and coaches for the team. It will begin next year,” Kabir Khan had earlier told TOI.
